Serpent's Sting

CRACKING SURFACES

BEHOLD THIS MASK

A RECUMBENT SERPENT

COILED AROUND A

ROSE AND A LITTLE OAK TREE

READY TO STRIKE

OR CRACK THE SURFACE

OF COMFORTABLE NUMBNESS

CONTENT WITH SLEEP

THE SERPENT'S HEAD

RISES TO THE FLOWER AND THE TREE

LIKE A SLEEPWALKING LIGHTNING

FORGOTTEN BY THE STORM

POISON DRIPPING FROM A MOUTH

UNCOILING RISING UP

TRYING TO DECIDE

BETWEEN TREE AND BLOOM

SWAYING HEAD WITH NEEDLE TEETH

THE OAK SO STRONG SO GREEN

THE ROSE SO BEAUTIFUL WITH THORNS

THE SERPENT STOPS THINKING

LIKE A REFLEX

TIGHTENS COIL

THE SLEEPING LIGHTNING WAKES

AND STRANGLES

CRACKING SURFACES

ROSE

AND

OAK
